SUMMERHOUSE EDUCATION & EQUITATION CENTRE is
an NVQ Training Supplier and British Horse Society "Where to Train"
Approved
Centre. This means that Summerhouse provides training for NVQ levels both at the Centre
itself and at other yards within the local area. As an approved BHS Exam Centre, this
enables you to take your BHS exams and Preliminary Instructors Certificate alongside your
NVQ levels. We accept students from 16 years with no upward age limit - but funding is available
for those between 16 to 25 years old. Training is available for NVQ Levels 1-3 and BHS
Stage 1-4 and BHSI.
Summerhouse is an Equal Opportunities Centre, this means that we are
committed to policies, procedures and practices, giving all staff
the chance to achieve their full potential, in an environment free
from any form of unfair discrimination. All students receive training
in "recognising the needs of others" to include having timetabled
training with RDA riding sessions.
Summerhouse Equitation Centre is owned and run by Sheila Weston and
Helen Gallop. Helen holds the BHSI, is an NVQ Internal Verifier; BHS
and Pony Club examiner. She also competes regularly at BSJA Advanced
level and Advanced Dressage Competitions. The Centre also has 2 Internal
Verifiers, nine NVQ Assessors, two Intermediate Instructors, one Intermediate
Stable Manager and nine Assistant Instructors.
We have 33 horses and 18 ponies and 10 young stock ranging from the 16.3hh advanced
eventer to the 9hh Shetland pony! We also have two advanced dressage horses, three medium
dressage horses, 3 grade A/B Show Jumpers, 2 advanced 3 day event horses and 1 junior
winner, of Windsor National 3 day event. We also hold dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing
Training Sessions with international trainers.
Our extensive breeding programme produces youngsters for the competition market, from top
stallions such as Cruise Missile and Welton Apollo.
Lake Street Envoy is at stud at Elmore, Gloucester which is only three miles from the
Centre and our students have work experience days at the stud by kind permission of Mr and
Mrs David Guilding.
Summerhouse is one of only eight centres to introduce a CD library for unlimited use for
students as a training aid by computer and CD-ROM for riding, stable management theory,
equal opportunities, health and safety.
We pride ourselves in being a friendly, approachable yard, while maintaining
a very positive attitude to attainment and achievement. We like to
specialise in tailoring each training program for the needs of each
individual, so that your particular requirements can be met in the
time that you set. We firmly believe in the "power of positive
